WE, Republicans, should celebrate Juneteenth as the day that Republicans Defeated the Democrats and freed the slaves. This also gave rise to the Democrats forming the Ku Klux Klan. The democrats only gave up the KKK in the 1960-70s with one major exception, senator Byrd
Republicans’ should be hailing this message at every opportunity.
HISTORY: Not all slaves were freed by the Emancipation Proclamation, nor via Juneteenth. Only the slaves of the REBEL states were freed then. Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation was a wartime effort to split and weaken the South; he did NOT free any slaves in the Northern states. Slaves in the non-rebelling border states had to wait for the 13th Amendment, effective December 18, 1865.
Public employees want a paid holiday every month of the year, so another holiday in January, September, or December doesn’t cut it.
Boston MA comes closest with a state holiday on Patriots’ Day (April) and county holidays on Evacuation Day (March, basically St. Patrick’s Day) and Bunker Hill Day (June, now basically Juneteenth, unless the city wants to give employees a four day weekend). Only August is left. Rhode Island has Bay Day (formerly V-J Day or Victory Day) in August.
