This looks more like sloppy reporting and source research than the outright lying that CNN/CBS/NBC/ABC/NYTIMES/WASHPOST does. Once the reporter got called out on her laziness, she tried to throw it on the editor — who would ask properly for such a story to be written if correctly sourced.
I suspect you got it right.
