Couldn’t this be considered vote buying? If so, that is illegal. But when do laws and rules apply to the dims.
This is lawful only if they pass a Constitutional amendment. Otherwise, the land reverts back to Maryland and Virginia, which ceded territory but not jurisdiction.
But, hey, we live in a post-Constitution US. Stolen elections have consequences.
I propose we make every congressional district a state with 2 senators and 1 representative.
Any political implications aside, I’m opposed to this in same way that I was (and am) opposed the demoting Pluto from a planet to dwarf planet — it just ain’t right. I think I’d be more open Puerto Rico becoming a state.
I submit that due to the Constitution granting Congress full control over the district, that the first step to DC Statehood would be an amendment to the Constitution removing Congress’s power over the district.
If that is not done, you end up with a state that Congress can control a clear violation of the separation of powers.
