“I would not think that making bullets would require that much start up capital?”

The insurance alone will eat most companies up.

Unless you already have the equipment and supplies, those channels have dried up, too.

Then folks need to decide if reloading might be wise to pursue; watch for equipment & supplies to reappear on the shelves; and then actually DO IT! Spend some money, get what you need, and learn to reload. I hate to say it, but an awful lot of folks went through the last ammo shortage with Obama in office, saw supplies gradually return to normal, and then DID NOTHING. They didn't buy extra ammo when it was cheap, they didn't get set up to reload - and too many of them also did next to nothing to keep 'Jobama' from replacing a pro-gun president in the White House.

It's not too soon (or too late) to start doing something. Find out which businesses in your area still sell ammo at list price; I think Walmart did that, all through the Obama shortage. Get a reloading manual or go on the internet, and start learning about reloading. And don't forget to support pro-gun officials & groups - if Republican candidates &/or GOA had got a buck every time somebody complained about the NRA last year, we probably wouldn't have Schumer running the Senate...

I saw some 6.5 Nosler Hornady bullets at a sporting goods store. $99/100. The clear packaging had each bullet in its own cell.

OK, were they Nosler or Hornady.

They were Hornady

I brought some Nosler .30 in to sell.

I wouldn't give wallymart any koodos. In my part of the country, central ct, the wallyworlds have stopped selling guns and ammo. Not politically correct.

I did as I could afford it. I thought I had enough primers. I bought 3 bricks and had another two-and-a-half that I got from my F-I-L. I started slow, and had a lot of store-bought ammo to use before reloading. I had no idea I'd be reloading as much as I do now and am kicking myself for not buying more primers and powder. I can still find tips on occasion, and have the brass, but I've run through more than I thought I would of the primers. I don't really reload much rifle. But handgun I've done several hundred. I'm still fairly new to it. I had no idea how much I could go through when I got into a rhythm.

Walmart for example deserves the thanks of all of us because they are the largest and they buy on long-term contracts with higher priority so they have great influence over the market price as their costs are locked in.

Wal-Mart stopped selling handgun specific ammo in their stores over a year ago (fall 2019). Only rifle and shotgun ammo now. You can get .22LR, but if you have a carbine chambered in .357 or .44 Magnum, no bueno.

...kicking myself for not buying more primers...

Ditto here, in part because I've passed some on to friends, who bought less than did I...

I haven’t purchased any 6.5 bullets in over 2 years. I load my own. 140gr. Accubond bullets, Hornaday or Lapua brass and my choice of powder right now is RL17. Got 5 and 10# containers of different powders when they were much less expensive. I think I’ve only got around 2k large rifle primers left currently.
In a shtf scenario how many bullets you going to be able to carry? Would you carry the AR ammo and 9mm or a combo of 6.5, AR, 9mm and any other firearm cartridge. For me it would be AR and my 9mm.

Academy Sports has been getting shipments in about twice a week. Often a mixed bag of calibers. Limit has been two boxes per person.

Talking to a distributor of mine, and it seems that primers is one of the real holdups on ammo supply.

I would think primers would be the easiest to manufacture

I’m cleaning out the garage and finding old loading stuff I no longer need. I sold all my .45 stuff when I got out of mounted shooting, or so I thought. Finding boxes of stuff in the back of drawers. I have a favorite sporting goods stores that I sell on consignment or he just buys it from me.

I’m mostly into hunting. And I don’t get to do too much big game hunting now either. My extended family got 4 elk & 4 deer this last season and keep asking me if I want more than they have already given me. I still have my grandson’s buffalo and some of my elk & deer from a couple years ago.

The article provides only a brief explanation for the causes of ongoing ammo shortage.

You might have noticed a lot of things are in short supply.

New car lots are nearly devoid of cars as are used car lots that handle higher quality used cars.

I was in the dealership yesterday and the service manager told me that it is difficult to get parts for newer cars.

I think that the governments of the world is trying to destroy the economy and is using COVID as an excuse.

They are making it difficult for people to work and produce goods.

I haven’t reloaded in a long time.

I remember when the fancy bullets cam in a plastic box instead of cardboard.

Wow. Now they come in blister packs?

Yep, Government is destroying the economy and our institutions - we had better elect Republicans that prefer to fight over dine at their county clubs.
