Spain was a turning point for Orwell. He went to Spain a committed and brave Marxist and put his life on the line for his beliefs. He returned to England a libertarian and socialist light. Hell, if he were 30 years younger he would have probably been a hard core conservative later and Prime Minster instead of Thatcher.
The technology that Orwell spoke of in 1984 did not exist in his time. He got most of it right. He knew not the technology to come but knew exactly what government would do with it.

Oddly I lived in England in the 70s working in the North Sea. I never visited his grave. We go back to England every 2 or 3 years to visit friends but not as tourists. I am old now almost 73. Next visit must include a visit to Orwell's Grave. I would like to lay a single black rose on his grave. I think he would appreciate this.

Oddly I have flown above his grave. I am a pilot and flew gliders and power in that area. At that time I did not know where he was buried. It was near where I flew many years ago.
