I don’t see a problem with student body rules for a school or college if you know them in advance. No card playing might be an infraction that is upsetting to avid poker players. Here’s a simple solution — go somewhere else to school.

This was a private high school. The kids had little say where they went to school back in the day.

I went to a high school which was closed during lunch time. We couldn’t even leave for a burger!

Kids were opting out of public schools to go to private ones because of a "lack of say." These same kids then began bitching about the moralistic rules at a school . . . run by James Kennedy? Good Lord! Did I just read that correctly?

No, you are not. The most of the kids who attended Westminster Academy had parents that attended Coral Ridge Presbyterian. I don't know about you, but I personally had little say in what high school I attended. These kids were in the same boat. Many were there because their parents wanted them there.

That is how most families work.

I went to a private secular school (my father's choice)where we were daily required to wear blue blazers, a black tie, and gray slacks. Our hair could not touch the eyebrows in length or be in a fashion like the Beatles.

The students didn't mind. In fact they/we all enjoyed pushing the rules a bit, (wearing a striped tie or letting our hair grow a bit longer than the rules dictated.) The school was Flint Hill Preparatory in Fairfax, Virginia. It was not uppity but had a sterling reputation with excellent decorum. The "silly rules" and high academic standards cemented a testimony to recruiting colleges and universities.

I am no defender of the Presbyterian church. If you are suggesting that it has cast aside Biblical spirituality for moralism, I agree. On the other hand all institutions should carefully guard its profile to the outside world.I think your school was doing just that and the parents appreciated it.
