I went to Catholic schools throughout my youth and even into college. I don't know if it's changed, but in my day Catholic schools taught religion almost exclusively from the Catholic catechism, not from the Bible. (Most of our exposure to the Bible came through the readings at Sunday mass, and that was mostly limited to the New Testament and the Psalms.)

Thus when liberal Catholics say - for example - that Jesus never opposed homosexuality, they don't make the connection between his defense of "the law and the prophets" and the actual CONTENT of the law and the prophets, which condemn sexual immorality of all types, including fornication, adultery, and homosexuality.
