Do you have a picture of the specialized mask in question? I can’t see why they would put a valve on a mask when it’s in a high-particulate environment. That doesn’t make sense at all from a safety perspective.
If you want a mask that really works to protect against VIRUS you must wear at the very least an N95 mask with the paper mask over it, changing the paper mask every 20 min, or whenever you come in contact with another person. That is what my dentist told me. They have managed to NOT have any covid at all among his staff and patients in 2020 - 2021 so far. If you wear those little paper masks they fill up with germs and that is actually worse. They are all over the ground at parking lots now. If you can breathe through a mask, the virus can pass right through it. Much tinier than bacteria. It is merely virtue signaling.

The original poster said he was using a full face shield model for 12 hours. I suspect it is similar to one of these.

THEY DON’T WORK! Look at the countries and states that have mask mandates AND excellent compliance - it doesn’t stop the virus! It is a magic talisman, meant to make people feel safe while doing nothing to help them or others.
Masks do work. My sister is a doctor and works in a COVID unit. They wear full-face P100s, taped suits, visors, etc. She has not gotten sick. If you think that PPE doesn’t work, why don’t you go to the hospital and preach there to the docs and nurses?

Hospitals change masks constantly. They use high quality masks. They use GLOVES. They use gowns. And they have training in how to change that stuff safely. And they change and wash constantly.
This stuff WAS studied, extensively, pre-COVID. In hospitals. And when dealing with viruses, all the studies concluded a surgeon’s mask was worthless. If they had a dangerous virus, then they used special wards and special equipment - just like my RN wife used to use.
NOT a piece of cloth hanging over one’s face.
