At West Point. In the US Army where the North & South offered him command of the army. At Appomattox where he told his soldiers not to use gorilla tactics. At Washington College where he sought reconciliation. His friendship with Grant.
Then Northam should look in the mirror and see how he measures up.
So when do we get to meet the person who these statue removals has helped? So glad that doing it can change people’s lives for the better.
I’m also glad that it doesn’t cost anything.
Actually the attack took place in April. Slavery had existed before that, and Lincoln had been President for months. The Confederates weren't willing to let the North maintain a fort at the entrance to one of their major ports. Rather than attack, though, they were waiting until the Northern troops ran out of supplies.
So why did the attack take place when it did? Because Lincoln announced that he was sending supplies. That's when Jefferson Davis ordered that the South Carolina troops attack if the fort didn't surrender. (It was a mistake from the morale standpoint, because it provided a justification to fight for many Northerners who weren't eager to do so just to keep the South in the Union.)
Here's the account in Wikipedia:
"Davis faced the most important decision of his career: to prevent reinforcement at Fort Sumter or to let it take place. He and his cabinet decided to demand that the Federal garrison surrender and, if this was refused, to use military force to prevent reinforcement before the fleet arrived. Anderson did not surrender. With Davis's endorsement, Beauregard began the bombarding of the fort in the early dawn of April 12."
you know the thing-———— we have to BE ANDREW!
fuck you and the jackass you rode in on.
Thank you, very well said.
bullshit. Lincoln was occupying a fort that had been ceded back to the state of South Carolina years before in order to blockade the harbor and collect his damned tax.... read a book.
Statement by Donald J. Trump on Robert E. Lee statue removal
Just watched as a massive crane took down the magnificent and very famous statue of “Robert E. Lee On His Horse” in Richmond, Virginia. It has long been recognized as a beautiful piece of bronze sculpture. To add insult to injury, those who support this “taking” now plan to cut it into three pieces, and throw this work of art into storage prior to its complete desecration.
Robert E. Lee is considered by many Generals to be the greatest strategist of them all. President Lincoln wanted him to command the North, in which case the war would have been over in one day. Robert E. Lee instead chose the other side because of his great love of Virginia, and except for Gettysburg, would have won the war. He should be remembered as perhaps the greatest unifying force after the war was over, ardent in his resolve to bring the North and South together through many means of reconciliation and imploring his soldiers to do their duty in becoming good citizens of this Country.
Our culture is being destroyed and our history and heritage, both good and bad, are being extinguished by the Radical Left, and we can’t let that happen! If only we had Robert E. Lee to command our troops in Afghanistan, that disaster would have ended in a complete and total victory many years ago. What an embarrassment we are suffering because we don’t have the genius of a Robert E. Lee!
