Except Hollywood moguls, Hollywood actors and actresses, and Deep State connected millionaires.
Right - and it's been that way for almost 50 years now.
A the military people stationed there?
A nexus. ANY NEXUS! Why not tax ppl everywhere in the US for simply being a state of this great country of states. Dumba$$es!
The “we want you to leave and never come back even to visit” plan.
How would they collect it if you have no assets (property, bank accounts, etc) in the state?
This could get amusing...imagine the scenario...
Arab Sheikh worth billions changes planes in LAX en route to Hawaii for a vacation...
Sheik has a heart attack at the airport and is rushed to the hospital for emergency care.
He forgets about the whole incident, and then a year later gets a CA wealth tax bill because of his “nexus” to the state of CA due to his hospital stay...they want a complete list of _all_ of his assets...
;-)
This is where high tech and digital currencies get dangerous.
In the future a state like CA might be able to “hack” into your bank account and just take what they claim...
If taken to the “Supreme” court the will say that’s perfectly legal
It won’t apply to them
I think in president reject Biden’s plan, he wants farmer to stop growing crops
This would snag every professional athlete in California. It is no mystery why pro golfers mostly live in FL, TX, and NV.
Almost 11% vs 0%?
Not gonna happen. The people in Moneyworld will send a message to the commies behind this. The message will be blunt and unmistakable.
I did the same concerning California. My now wife moved out of California in order to marry me. She had worked for a couple of months in CA in a part time job while she finished college. I worked the whole year, in Michigan. We filed joint Michigan and US tax returns. She was due a refund on the Taxes CA had withheld, so I filled out a joint CA tax return, as well. According to the instructions, I was required to include ALL of my Michigan income on the CA tax return, but then was allowed to deduct my Michigan payment from the required CA payment. It was still a lot of money.
We punted, and filed a single payer tax return for CA, and received the whole refund. I think the statute of limitations has expired, so I can return to CA without fear, but there is absolutely no reason for me to ever want to do that again. We drove across the Bay Bridge in San Francisco with “I left my Heart in San Francisco”
playing on the radio, and it was quite sad. My heart has returned home, and there is no way I would ever step foot there again.
Prelude to their real intention: take as much as they want of your money and give it to indolent slackers who vote democrat.
Yeah, that will fix everything, Joe. Make the farmers stop growing food. Worked great in South Africa!
Normally that wouldn’t make it past the courts, but then the courts have entered a new realm after giving their blessing over a fraudulent election.
Used to really enjoy going to SFO on business. But then it became overladen with: 1) bums living on the sidewalks; 2) human waste in common areas, such as BART stations, where the stench was incredible; 3) far left Bolsheviks such as the DA just elected, one Chesa Boudin, who is the proud son of murderous felons and who won’t enforce laws; 4) a school board interested in removing names of America’s greats, such as Lincoln, from public schools. Sad as it is, I think its a good time for SFO, Portland and Seattle to consider leaving the union as the rest of us have nothing in common with this bunch and they appear to have majority support in their cities for their far left loony policies.
Every other state ought to have a yearly wealth tax on people moving FROM Commiefornia or New York. if it dissuades them from moving to saner states it would be good.
