The PhD preceded the MD, but the physicians must have had a superior PR department. That said, there have been a lot of essentially fraudulent doctorates created in recent years to make it easier for people to bill themselves as doctors.

He was a doctor, dammit . . . well, not a medical doctor, but so what? He had a PhD in clinical psychology, which made him a doctor, yes a real damned doctor, even if he’d never stuck his finger up a person’s ass. Did they think it was a piece of cake to get a PhD? Oh yeah, the ass-muggers knew their stuff; he wasn’t taking anything away from them. But did they do research? Did they have to write a book and go to bat for every word of it? All they had to do was keep shit in their heads, piles and piles of shit, which face it, might be done by any old savant. He could have done it himself . . . if he’d wanted to.
