Making more sacrifices? No. Taking greater risk? Probably.

“She is a Nurse. She was being paid. I doubt seriously she would be “risking her life” if she was not being paid.“

Healthcare folks are definitely putting theirselves at risk .
There is no reason to minimize that

That’s pretty much true of hospital workers ALL THE TIME. There are always deadly diseases running around. And often, they are NOT thinking about it, and not watching for it, like they are now.

Well, except apparently it might be racist to give them a vaccine before we give it to old minority people.

What are the chances one of the kids caused the fire.

Purely on speculation, I’m going to guess someone had a candle burning, and the cat knocked it over.

I understand that. there is always risk but on the covid wards it is much higher and more concentrated. Any hospital worker who tells you it’s not in the back of their mind at work right now is lying

Anyone working in a hospital these days is taking a risk. Whether you wish to acknowledge that or not

How about working on high voltage power lines for a living, off shore oil rigs, aviation. Any of those have risks?

You have a degree of sanctimonious hubris that is part of old-school doctors.

We are all technicians. Get over it.

Funny you mentioned teaching, the other day I was approached by a woman in her car at the grocery parking lot with the scam, “I’m from out of town and I forgot my debit card. Could you please loan me $20 for gas and I’ll pay you back.”

except this time she said “I’m a teacher on my way to a conference and I left my debit card at home and don’t have enough gas”.

“Teaching is the new sympathy gig”.

Every time a policeman or police woman puts on their uniform they put their life in danger and I believe too a much greater degree than a nurse does. And yet we see nothing but castigation and condemnation for the police, and there’s no reason to minimize that either
