He will be quite at home in our Banana Republic.

The Dems take up where the Japanese left off.

If he wanted to flee the United States, he couldn’t have picked a more likely place to flee to and still (for the record) still live in it.

So, he’s going to direct operations remotely from the Islands?

Yes he is.

He got a great deal. He basically owns the island of Lanai. Not entirely, but something like 95% of the land. He bought it from the Dole Corporation after they decided it was cheaper to grow pineapples in the Philippines. Paid $500 million. Compare that to what Zuckerburg paid for just a handful of acres on Maui.

I’ve been to Lanai a couple of times, once for our honeymoon. It’s a beautiful place. About 45 minute boat ride from Maui or you can take a small plane. Not much development there, only a few 1000 residents, 2 large hotels (both Four Seasons, both I think owned by Ellison) and guests can use the facilities at both locations. One is on the beach and one is up the mountain, more like a lodge than an island resort. There are wonderful horse riding trails, hiking trails, a skeet shooting range, you can hunt wild boar, fish of course. There are also a couple of small bed and breakfast lodges for those who don’t want to spend $1000 a night.

Once spent New Years (or was it July 4th? I don’t remember) on the island and Ellison parked his super yacht outside the harbor and put on a massive fireworks display. Of course all the hotel employees yelled “thank you Mr. Ellison”.

His daughter is also seemingly very talented in producing quality motion pictures. She owns Anapurna films which finances a lot of the David O. Russel features among others.

I think he resigned as CEO a number of years ago, and then came back. When you got $78 billion and control of the company I guess you can do what you want.

"Ellison is far from a leftist. He held fundraisers for Trump."

The (then)Gulf Coast Chapter of FR Freeped Oracle in New Orleans in 2001 or 2002 for paying Clinton $500,000 for a speech there.

The locals we talked to on the Big Island a few years back all seemed to be from somewhere else -- and all of them seemed wistful about some day returning to there.

.........indeed!, I rate my year on how few times I have to go into town (Austin).

I live 45 miles west.

Like Ellison, I use Zoom and Skype A LOT!

in 2020, I guess I’ve been to town about 10 times. Nearly all of that was for cataract surgery and follow up.

Hahaha, a huge welfare state. A big Kahuna Poi eating single women with no daddy for all the kids can bring in 50k+ a year to sit on her big Kahuna.
