The surgical mask over the n95 is completely and utterly pointless.
Yes...I know.
Surgical masks over the N95 mask is due to the N95 mask having an exhale valve. The surgical mask is there to catch the outgoing droplets not filter the incoming air. Surgical masks by design keep the doctor’s saliva and mucus droplets out of the patient being worked on. That is the reason they are legally required for any and all surgical procedures. Two of my Xs that I’m still close with are trama nurses they both just double up for 12 hours a day neither sees the issue with it as they routinely wear masks during each and every flu season and any case where there’s an open would normally even not in covid times. I’m in the oil industry we wear full face respirators for 12 to 16 hour shifts for weeks at a time when the frac crews are onsite with the sand due to the deadly dangers of silica dust. On a 24 well pad at 9 days per well per frac job you get the idea how much we wear respirators in 100+ degree Midland heat we do it like the men we are not the whinny babies that have afflicted the antimaskers
I cannot wear a mask. I carry a note from my doctor, with me saying as much. The only place that has refused me service without a mask is Pekin hospital in Pekin, Illinois, for blood work, ordered by the same doctor who wrote the note.
N95 masks with an exhalation port are verboten in medical settings because of that. Not all N95 masks have exhalation ports - in fact I would find it hard to believe medical grade N95s are allowed to have them.
Any business that allows N95s with exhalation ports to be used as a preventative measure for covid exposure is simply not paying attention or is willfully blind to the recommendations that have been made and the function behind it.
Welcome to an NHS.
Can’t say we weren’t warned.
