Given the size of the Red Army at the time, the only way to take them on would have been to switch sides at precisely the time the fighting was still going on, because the Germans would have been needed. Politically, it would have shattered the alliance. And in order to shift US resources to the Pacific War, there had to be V-E day, and we had to wait until we had The Bomb to bring about V-J day.

How was it possible to give only so much to “push Germany back” but not to take Berlin? From the moment the Russians won Kursk, they were going to take Berlin.

You will find that debatable among those who get into it deeply, but I do admit my proposal is problematic. Only God know what all the effects will be of even the flap of a the wing of a butterfly. Thus even if we could go back in time and correct what we see as mistakes, then we could make matters worse.
