Americans are almost universally held in high esteem for our culture, our freedoms and the things weve brought to this world -in particular liberty. This is especially true in traditional societies. They know who invented the electricity, automobiles, televisions and cell phones they use everyday.
Only elitist snobs here and abroad resent America.

Like when we were standing in a Customs line in traditional Tahiti in 2000 and the young customs agent snickered at us:
“Who’s your President?”
Like in 2005, when I overheard a waitress on Moorea mutter to her buddy as she ran back to the kitchen:”Cheeseburger, cheeseburger, they are all cheeseburgers” and she wasn’t smiling. And, no, she wasn’t memorizing the order. Found out later they call American tourists ‘cheeseburgers”.
They don’t even think about us , mostly. We are a source of income or we aren’t. When we don’t show up, they miss the money. We are also sources of amusement.
I’ve had friendships abroad with lovely people who were also brutally honest. Just because they like individuals, they don’t confuse that with the country of origin.
My experiences were from 1975-2005 in the Pacific and Caribbean, where the locals are exposed to the citizens of every country in the world. The younger ones, by 2005, hated us just like their contemporaries here in the US do. Those cell phones/computers have spread the poison.
Sorry to you and all.
