Exactly. Romney when he did his one vote for impeachment, got a whole lot of flack from conservatives for doing so, and was pretty much universally reviled in the Pub Party. He may see this vote for a Supreme as a way to get back in the good graces of the Party and/or with Trump, so that he is not such an outcast.
I think Romney would very much like to be back in the spotlight in a positive sense rather than skulking about on the periphery, disliked by many, This might be his escape route. He might very well go along with voting for confirmation, in particular if the candidate is a woman.

Obviously, you don’t have a good grasp of Leftism. Adopting children of color is the most racist thing a person can do! It robs them of their ethnicity and denies them their rich cultural heritage.
Seriously, there is a huge effort to limit cross-culture adoptions; however, there are very few minorities who adopt outside of relatives. Leftists would rather see children languish in foster care than see them adopted into a conservative family.
