Most cities are struggling to pay the electric bill for their street lights.

Let the stupid bust the bank accounts of their cities on socialist projects. The good working folks will move and leave the beneficiaries of such projects with the bills.

I was just wondering how much this generosity of liberal mayors was going to cost me. I was also wondering when municipal-level politicians were given the authority to impose policies on the entire country.

Vulgar to do or suggest evil in Jesus name. What has He ever done to you to deserve this? He has paid for all of our sins and given His command to love(agape) others as He has loved us. It is Agape love, higher than sexual love; pure, gracious, free, eternal and without fault.

So why should conservatives take on evil values? I don't think so.

The Democratic Cities are doing it to themselves, they are being hollowed out by the leftist sieges that the Dems stand aside for. Folks are fleeing them in droves as we speak. It is fueling a rocketing housing market as they seek to get away from the insanity that has gone on too long and way too far.

Whether they will ever really come back to what they were, is another question. What do you think?

I don’t know if he called it universal basic income, but didn’t Milton Friedman advocate for something like this? He argued (IIRC) that if the government was giving out cash, it shouldn’t divvy it up for specific uses (you get X for food, Y for housing, etc); rather, you get a lump sum and then decide for yourself where it’s best spent. I would go for that approach over all the hundreds of “programs” there are now. Of course, I’m sure the Left wants UBI and all the other goodies as well.

Note, that this was canceled because it was getting too expensive, and didn't actually work. 2M people getting €560 ($634) a month is $1.3MM, out of a ~$20B budget. A population of 5.5MM means a real UBI turns into costs of $3.5B, or an 18% increase in their budget. And, as the article states, the payment amount isn't enough to actually live on, just a partial support.

Finland basic income trial left people 'happier but jobless'

So, did it work?

That depends what you mean by 'work'.

Did it help unemployed people in Finland find jobs, as the centre-right Finnish government had hoped? No, not really. Mr Simanainen says that while some individuals found work, they were no more likely to do so than a control group of people who weren't given the money. They are still trying to work out exactly why this is, for the final report that will be published in 2020.

But for many people, the original goal of getting people into work was flawed to begin with. If instead the aim were to make people generally happier, the scheme would have been considered a triumph.
...
Mr Simanainen says that he doesn't like to think of the trial as having "failed".

From his point of view, "this is not a failure or success - it is a fact, and [gives us] new information that we did not have before this experiment".

Vulgar to do or suggest evil in Jesus name.

Sorry, it was meant in jest, mocking leftists.

No, the cities will never be the same after 2020. The time of ultra-high density virus distribution/terrorist and nuclear target/collectivist shared property living has passed. High rise cities were an experiment, now an obsolete technology after all the factories moved out.
