The only Compromise I would accept would be to name them after Union Generals.

I have a grip, thanks. My post said to do this later, after the mob calms down and moves on to the next cause de jour.

but they did abandon their oaths of office and rebel against the US Government

The state was the pre-eminent political unit at that time, not the federal government. These soldiers fulfilled their oaths to their respective states.

As you'll recall, the American units of the time were usually created state-by-state: Pickett's Division, which was made up of Virginians, Chamberlain's 20th Maine infantry regiment, Michigan's 24th Infantry (part of the midwest's Iron Brigade), Hood's Texans. Lee himself wrestled with the question of his oath to the federal government as part of the US Army, and his oath to his state of Virginia.

The Confederates cannot be equated with Benedict Arnold.

This isn't a flame, BTW. Just highlighting what was actually going on back then.

Sorry, but I disagree with your rationalization. I realize that states were preeminent then, but no one forced them to take oaths to the US Government. I guess it would be OK for their home state to name a fort, base or building after one or more of them (good luck with that, these days), but not a US Army installation.

I also disagree with your statement that the Confederates are not equal to Benedict Arnold, but that is the subject of another discussion.

Don’t worry. The cultural revolution is just underway. All of the founding fathers will be next.

I disagree with your characterization of my historical explanation as a "rationalization".

I also disagree with your continued insistence that Benedict Arnold and the Confederates are equal.

As for a discussion about either of these things, we'll just agree to disagree.

We both seem to have thought quite a bit about these things, and I doubt either of us will persuade the other to change our stance.

GOP Leader McCarthy (Doormat Republican-CA) proves yet again that their is no opposition party to the progressive corportist agenda. POTUS is flying solo in The Swamp.
