To keep YOU in line. To enforce unconstitutional “executive orders”. To solve some crimes. To raise money for the government. To makes sure you lose your property if you don’t pay your taxes. Etc. To protect government officials. What is not their job is protecting the peasants.
If someone puts savings into a business and it makes money the government extorts a big cut of what they make some of which goes to pay the police. The government risks nothing and if the business owners loses money the government doesn’t lose anything. Since the cops are part of the government they don’t have any vested interests in protecting anyone other than the government particularly if they are at actual risk. The government looks after its own interests not the interests of ordinary citizens

I remember Georgia Avenue in DC. I was a kid but I still remember plywood store fronts from the beltway to downtown.Sad, they’ve been on the Democrat plantation for so long they’ve lost all hope.
Since the 60’s, Police have been trained to show up in force to address even minor issues.
This is why during domestic disturbances, you see 6 show up to confront 2 people.
They have NO solution when they are outnumbered other than retreat.
When I was attacked by three drunk Police Officers back in ‘96, there was about 30 officers off duty all getting drunk with their wives.
I’m positive if there had only been 3 of the near me, they wouldn’t have been bold enough to attack me.
