In my youth blatant racist politicians were a thing.
Also in my youth, I read the Readers' Digest Condensed Version of the Road to Serfdom.
So, as a youth, I made the virtuous political decision to be opposed to both racism and socialism.
At the time, one party was unambiguously against racism and unambiguously against socialism. And the other major party was not unambiguously unified against either.
So I did the logical and virtuous thing. I became a Republican.
Since then, even in the South, blatantly racist anti-black politicians have ceased being a thing. The old Southern Democrats faded away, with a handful switching to the Republican party and the rest ultimately leaving office. Now - amazingly - the Democrat Party, north and south, is not merely no longer anti-black, it is anti-white instead. The Democrat Party is cynical about society, and promotes naiveté towards government.
