The shore counties of Monmouth, Ocean and Cape May went for Trump in 2016. Atlantic County went for Hillary (Atlantic City has a large minority population).

New Jersey beaches cannot be closed to the public as a matter of law. The boardwalks could legally be closed, and most (excepting - interestingly - Atlantic City) were closed. However, they are quietly beginning to reopen with little/no fanfare.

From what I can see, Asbury Park (one of the bluest of the shore towns) may be choosing economic seppuku instead of opening its boardwalk.

The operators of the bars, nightclub and restaurants pay the landlords of the bar, nightclub and restaurant buildings and the owners in turn pay the town property taxes, which pays the Asbury Park cops, firemen and teachers.

I don't know how the town can possibly survive without its bars, restaurants, nightclubs and concerts. It will return to the burned out ruin that it was after the riots of 50 years ago, and that it took 40 years to recover from.

Or maybe they think that Murphy can print money. It doesn't look like they want to open up.

“I want to make it absolutely clear that this action does not mean that we are seeing anything in the data which would pause our path forward and it should not be interpreted by anyone to mean we are going to be tightening any of the restrictions currently in place,”

In other words.... “I am extending this restriction an additional 30 days for NO REASON at all”
