“So much for a vaccine.”

The common cold, also often a corona virus, also mutates. Why would anyone with more than a junior high school education in biology think otherwise?

Because “Bioengineering” would require an enzyme that could “clip the virus” genome open and other that could insert a gene sequence from somewhere else. That would leave “fingerprints” and no one is seeing those “fingerprints”. Gain of Function would not require that kind of manipulation nor would it leave that kind of fingerprint.

“Who put the bee in his bonnet?” Good question, huh? He might want to consider listening to that person again.

Communist Chinese bio-weapon. The more they deny it, the stronger the proof becomes.

Transration: Our superbug wasn't quite as super as we had hoped.

Subtext: We managed to kirr 21,000,000 of our own, before it mutated into ress virurent strains.

Sub-subtext: Next time we don't ret it escape here, we deriberatrry rerease it when and where we wish, and ret it mutate to ress virurent by the time it gets back to us...

Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

The false positive rate was 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

If a quarantine saves just one child's or one old fart’s life, it's worth it.

Since this virus looks like it started as a bat virus, should we be worried that it could infect bats around the world?

If bats had the same migration pattern as birds, I would say that it would be a real concern. But I don't think bats migrate, so the chance of an Asian bat infecting an American bat is pretty low. I also do not think there is enough interaction between humans and bats in most countries for the bats to catch Covid-19 from humans. At least, I'm assuming that most people avoid bats. Although there could be some very strange people out there who seek interaction with them.

And Trump just totally closed the country up tighter than a drum.

When I was a young caver it seemed to me that bats tended to colonize one cave as a species. Mexican Freetails is what you have in the Southwest. I don’t think other species “roost” or whatever the term is in the same caves.

Is that unusual?

There have been other coronaviruses.
What is a typical number of mutations for those?

In the report here yesterday, the creator of the covid virus claimed to have inserted HIV genetic material into the RNA string.

I don't think that is very likely. HIV and coronaviruses are very different, so that parts of one won't work very well in the other. Kind of like putting auto engine parts into your laptop--those super spark plugs might get great performance out of your car, but won't do much for your computer.

The longer this goes on the more I’m amazed by how many people apparently slept through high-school biology.

The NIH, et al, all already knew, from back in 2005:

I suspect most never took high school biology. That, and most kids are C students with A report cards. Participation trophies.

Which is why people can honestly say there is no evidence of bioengineering.

In addition, there would be telltale signs of genetic manipulation if there were bioengineering. As far as I know, the sequencing has revealed nothing but natural sequences.

It simply shows that the use of HCQ has been used to fight other corona viruses for over 10 years, and why it was immediately tested by some when the new strain first appeared.

Exactly, but torturing the virus with “Gain of Function” would leave no such fingerprints. Which is what is being reported.
