I think businesses could re-open today.

There are segments in many areas of the country that could be re-opened right now.

Wait till some states are open for business and others are under involuntary quarantine.

If some open for business the "blue" holdouts will quickly fold. They won't be able to sit by and watch the revenue streams firing-up in the state next door.

You’re actually a good example of why it would probably be a good idea to end the lockdown now. I’m 77, overweight, and have type II diabetes. No way I’m going to go out any more than I have to until things quiet down, making the environment a lot safer for me. However, there are lots more people who are younger and healthier than I am. The airlines nearly shut down substantially before the lockdown because a lot of people like you and me chose not to fly. Indeed, most people can be trusted to act in their own self interest, unless they’ve been hair on fire panicked by a bunch of radical communist media who want to destroy the economy and take down President Trump. Thus, freeing things up will save a lot of very good people from economic destruction and not seriously injure those of us in high risk groups because all we need to do is continue taking the reasonable precautions many of us began taking before the lockdown.

It would take an exodus of citizens first for that to happen.

...and the unemployment numbers. I think there’s still a backlog of filers and the system is a bottleneck.

My point is that there are all sorts of things that I’m not going to risk my life to get, even if I could.

It's quite possible that someone could determine that the risk to COVID-19 infection is too high for them given their specific circumstances so they will not get certain needs or wants.

And it's quite possible that someone could determine that their needs OR wants can be attained and their risk of infection of COVID-19 is minimal through mitigation, previous infection / mitigation, etc.

Either response is appropriate.

Thank God President Trump understands the private sector.

“oncoming economic carnage”?

Oh brother. We really live in the age of the “hair on fire” pronouncements of doom, dont we?

I don’t disagree with that. 48 type II diabetic. I have to keep myself alive and uninfected. Other people need to do what they have to do.

Another business I would not return to today, even if I could, casinos.

Let’s go push a bunch of buttons a bunch of other people pushed. Let’s go stand in line at the buffet, and afterwards, we can go down to the lounge and watch the singer while having drinks with about 75 other people.

Have to pass.

You right about that, and I know two people right now who would choose differently than me using that exact criteria.

Open America NOW. Mandated closure of business or restriction on movement / gathering is a deprival of liberty and unconstitutional. Trump needs to issue an executive order stating such. Land of the FREE, not land of the tyrants.
