“Conservative Inc” need to stop with the knee jerk ideological reactions.

If China had declared war on the US none of you would say a word about this spending. This China Virus is doing more damage to the US, and the World, economy then any war in our history.

Yes we all wish this was not necessary. Yes, we wish this was a clean bill without the usual pork vote buying tactics. Well welcome to the messy workings of legislative politics in a Constitutional Republic.

People have to deal with the world as it is right now, not as they wish it would work. We can go back to the ideological wars in 30 days.

Corporations employ tend of millions of people. Corporations are everything from your local privately own gas station down the street to massive operations like Ford or Delta Airlines.

Corporations have debt they have to play just like people. For example, When they build a new store or plant, they borrow money to finance the capital expense. In addition, they do not usually pay cash for daily supply delivers. Those are purchased are made on credit with 15-30-45-60 days to make payment. All those debt payments still have to be made even thought the Government shut them down or put a lock down on their customers.

Here is an example. I work for a Food Manufacturing corporation that employs about 5,000 people nation wide. Due to the loss of business from the slow down, they just cut all Executive and Sr Management salaries 20%. If this goes one 2 more weeks, they will cut middle management salaries, if it goes on a month they have to cut all salaries. After that they start laying off worker bees like me and shutting down production lines. Why? Because they have to have the money to make their debt payments now and hope they can make it up to employees later.

We are an “Essential Business” not shut down like the Airlines or the Car companies. The US, and the World, are on the brink of a financial crisis like nothing seen since the 1929.

Those credit bills have to be paid even if they are shut down by Government order. The people supplying them need to be paid so they can pay their creditor and so on and so on.

If they are not paid, this will trigger a cascading financial default on scale with what happened in 1929.We not talking about just crashing our economy here, we talking trashing the worlds economy if this is not addressed You are “:worried about “the Future”? “The Future will not thank you if you crash the economy out of knee jerk ideological dogmas now and let the Democrats recreate the Command and Control Economy of the FDR years for the next 2 decades

This is McConnell at his hardball best.

You have got to be kidding me!!!

He allowed this bill to become a Democrat porkfest with minimal resistance. Would you like me to list some of the items that have nothing to do with this crisis that we ultimately have to pay for?

Hardball? My azz!!!

Oh, and now they want to go on vacation?

One provision debated was the payouts to those unemployed which were seriously larger ($600@month) than unemployment checks-—which would incentivize some to sit home and collect the larger check, as well.

Will the threat of severing their relationship with their employer and losing their job, and looking for another outweigh 4 months of larger checks ? As I figure it, 4 x $600 plus another $1,200, plus an approx. $1,000 unemployment approaches a $4,500 or more. That’s a tidy sum and tempting for many, imho.

If so, it slows the recovery, which is why Graham, Sasse & Barasso hedged.

Moot point I suppose, since Rs acted like they were over a barrel. To hold it up, OTOH, could be disastrous for those in charge; Senate Rs and DjT.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D-NY) just now blamed the “federal government“, i.e. Trump, for delaying economic assistance.
It was Speaker Pelosi (D-CA) who did it.
She and Schumer (D-NY) never miss an opportunity to lie and obfuscate.

Coetus Democratorum delendus est!

It isn't a perfect bill -- there is some pork in it. But much less than was in the bill the House wanted, and without any of those other issues Pelosi tried to include in her bill -- such as ballot harvesting, DACA, airline carbon standards, etc..

Given the HYSTERIA around the topic, 10 MINUTES OF COMMON SENSE from a scientist in the field.
Has anyone VETTED the SCIENTISTS now surrounding & “advising” Trump? How many are leftist Democrats with a political agenda? Consider the STILL NOT CLEANED OUT Deep State INFECTED DOJ & God knows how many other government departments.
Have we ever been lied to by the managerial class in government whose jobs depend on how submissive they can keep the rest of us?
How many of them HATE TRUMP & his stated goal to DRAIN THEIR SWAMP?
Heard the stories that CDC employees wept when Trump beat Hillary? How objective would THOSE folks be collecting & analyzing the data? And wouldn’t a “SCARE” like this serve to open the tax slave (er PAYER) money sigot for them, as another government operation, to piss away on “research” (or whatever)?
Anybody know???
I didn’t think so.
One final thought: Could this just be another of the periodic tests conducted by Deep State leftists who would be more at home in Stalin’s Russia than Trump’s America to see if their century long socialist indoctrination in the GOVERNMENT SCHOOLS has enough of us sufficiently DUMBED DOWN to make their long awaited FINAL PUSH?
Just asking evidence based questions here.

Gotta agree with your main point (not necessarily the last comment)... My wife & I have been working our butts off and spending prudently (newest car is 11 yrs old) trying to prepare for retirement, and make it so our kids don’t have to worry about us. We make good incomes, so are always on the short (zero) end of any student aid, etc. etc. ... gets tiring... And now our kids are going to be burdened with paying for the handouts in the future.

I am awaiting the relief. We did everything right. We had enough money to last through the winter and start off our Spring Run of fairs and festivals. All of our events have cancelled. All. Of. Them. Now it makes sense to cancel these highly populated events...but thousands of dollars were lost. Hundreds of thousands and for some events, millions of dollars were lost.

We are among the casualities. A mom and pop sole proprietor business with no employees. We lost tens of thousands of dollars, which sets up our summer run. It can cost $1K to $5K for a spot at the fair for us. This is a real and serious business that we have been doing for 25 years.

I welcome $600/wk unemployment for both my wife and I, as well as $2400 of Helicopter money...that for a month barely scratches what we do at a rather small event....so we lost money. We are not the only one.\

I was on a teleconference call on ZOOM with the Western Fairs Association...this flows down the line and in all directions. From kids that planned to show their animals for money for their college fund, to grounds entertainment like clowns and what not that depend on that daily money for existence...to Carnivals that have equipment bank financed...to Food and Beverage Distributors, hotels, RV parks, mechanics, Costco, etc...Fairs bring real money into a community as well as suck out a huge sum too. It is a small city that comes together in a couple of days. It is truly amazing to watch a fair go up...

All of us have suffered to one extent or another. As the President says, through no fault of our own. All of us need to be made as whole as possible. It will not be possible for most of us, but at least the financial pain can be mitigated just a bit to make the day palatable.

Some folks might get over and receive monies they might not deserve...others, will get unemployment that is greater than what their state usually offers.

The attitude of the Administration seems to be So What...The money will get spent...whether on important things or unimportant things....it will get spent.

We have to get our economy rolling again...to get people back to work. An idle population does not bode well for a nation. Revolutions come from idle populations.

To date, the American people realize that sacrifices have to be made. They are smart enough to know that an Easter Deadline of opening the country back up is not a firm deadline, nor will the whole country open up...but where it can, it should and will.

This event has opened a lot of eyes. There are some of course that say the Federal Government should do this or that and that it is all Trump’s fault...but then there are people like my SIL, (democrat) who, after watching one of the daily task force meetings sees the press acting just like a gaggle of idiots begins to realize what is really going on, versus what her TV and radio tell her is going on....

"Well welcome to the messy workings of legislative politics in a Constitutional Republic."

Good grief!
There has been no Constitutional Republic since the early 1900's...

Since then, this has been, continues to be, and will always be, a kleptocracy whose power lies in a democractic form of government (a democracy)... Exactly what the Founders were attempting to prevent by establishing the former Republic...
