My prediction is that soon we will be naming the flu strains and diseases like we now name winter storms. We’ll give them names like Andrew and Belinda. “My 87 year old uncle was killed by influenza Stephanie back in ‘23.” “Roger almost killed me in ‘25.” This would also help avoid naming them after those geographical regions where they usually seem to start that happen to be inhabited by non-white populations. Which is vital to humanity.

And these restrictions are temporary. At the federal level, except where a border is involved (Constitution) they don’t even have the force of law unless Congress passes an actual bill which withstands Constitutional scrutiny in turn. The measures enacted so far have sunset provisions (I am told, haven’t read them, yet). The states, OTOH, can do as their own Constitutions permit or what they can get away with.

That’s not true. There have been quarantines and lockdowns for centuries. Millenia. Mitigating disease has always been on the table. It’s just that the science has improved in the last couple of centuries to the point where we can treat and prevent things we couldn’t touch before.

This thing isn’t the flu.
The flu is endemic. It’s everywhere, you can’t contain it. You are exposed to it multiple times every season. We have vaccines and some degree of herd immunity. Nevertheless, the flu kills 0.1% of its cases.
This thing has relatively few exposed to it. It also can’t be contained long term, but containment efforts slow it down. There isn’t a vaccine. There is no known immunity. And under the best mitigation and containment efforts anywhere in the world, it still kills over 10x as many of its cases.
So if we let the Wuhanic Plague run amok it will kill, not just tens or hundreds of thousands, but millions. It will crash HCSs around the world, like Wuhan, Italy, Iran, soon Spain and France, maybe NY and WA. Then that 1% number goes out the window and it’s 1 in 12 cases. And all the other people that can’t get treatment for their stroke or heart attack or birth complications or a simple infection because the hospitals are choked with Wuhanic plague victims. We see this happening in Italy right now. In Iran. There are virtually no people on the streets in Wuhan, a city that once had 11 million residents (where are they all?)
Our HCS is scaled to handle a bad flu year. This thing would break it pretty quick. That is why you are being asked - aggressively, but still asked - to isolate and social distance. So we have time to develop effective prophylactic and mitigation methods.
Those flu numbers you gave are all the high end estimates. Now multiply the hospitalizations by 5 and the deaths by 10. Our HCS can’t handle that and if 550,000 people died from this and the government had done nothing, Bernie Sanders would be our next President.

That is not the definition of communist. Statist, authoritarian, Democrat, sure, but communist is a lot more specific. You are having an anarchist meltdown.
