If you read the article you would see he lives there...his wife is an ambassador to the holy see according to the article.
In this particular case, I dont think its a socialized medicine issue. If you have a reasonable number of respirators and then all of a sudden you need ten times that amount, youve got a problem.
It would be one thing if some nut were writing this article. But its Gingrich. So I hope the powers that be take his warnings seriously.
They live there.
Indeed. He's 76, a higher risk individual. How can he even think about going into a Hot Zone? Yet here in the USA with much lower risk, the Howard Hughes wing of Free Republic tells us we have to load our guns and bolt the bunker doors.
Obviously Newt only goes around over there in full hazmat gear. Or, maybe, just maybe, if Newt practices basic hygiene even in Italy, infection can avoided.
More elderly, poor sanitary and healthcare this is where they are in deep
Really?!? I suppose my four years living there and not being able to get on a train that ran on time was a delusion.
His wife is ambassador to the Vatican and Trump has not recalled ambassadors, families, or staff. He has to stay.
Shhhj, this is the bubonic plague. Get with the program./s
I believe Newt’s wife Calista, is an Ambassador to The Vatican. That has to be exciting for any Catholic, even with this particular Pope. Newt is there with her. They do everything together.
My question is, must an Ambassador remain in that particular country without any breaks, or could the two of them return to the states until the crisis began to subside?
It’s true that both Italy and Japan are running out of young people. The elders widely outnumber the young. Japan invents certain robots to fill in the workforce vacanies, while Italy has to make do with ‘refugees’.
Obviously our current social shutdown will help slow the spread. Plus with our cleaner air and warmer weather we are simply not on the Italian spread trajectory.
I am not even falling for this, it is so horrible in Italy BS. Italy has 63 million people! People have no sense of numbers and scale. Less than 2000 deaths is statistically noise, with that many people. They have had more elderly die in heat waves, than this whole hyped up crap.
No, it is not a given. You are correct that quaratines and limited exposure will help. But you premise that doing nothing would result in Northern Italy types of spread is not correct. Ask yourself a simple question: why did it only spread in northern Italy?
What hasnt been done that you would like to see? If its more testing, ventilators, etc., fine. If you want a nationwide quarantine, you can go piss up a rope.
I'm not sure how that is relevant. Panic is never good. But the opposite...disbelief in reality...is never good either.
Do you believe a pandemic is currently ravaging every single country in the world?
Exactly. It can’t happen here. We are the most prepared country in the world anyway.
Then the US had best be prepared to provide pay for all employees at home.
Because people are not going to do that (stay home) if they have bills to pay.
He can fly back through Canada or some other country. No Americans are being turned away.
I’m sure your American Respirator and American genes will protect you better than those poor backward Italians /s
So you have nothing to worry about!
Northern Italy is much more akin to Switzerland and Germany. Southern Italy is the less energetic part.
