Ever been to PIT, SLC or some of the better airports in the country which see their passenger traffic as customers to be served rather than sheep to be shorn? Create a pleasant shopping and dining experience for them and they will arrive early, stay longer and spend more money versus ripping them off with $4 bottles of water which seem to be the rule elsewhere.
As stated, that was exactly the Pittsburgh experience when they opened their terminal to the public on the two experimental days last fall. Hell, it is still our local expectation when flying out and we wish the rest of the country would catch on.
It isn't rocket science. People actually feel a nostalgia for the gentler ways of the past. Maybe it is why we have so many and such a variety of heritage festivals and historical sites in Western Pennsylvania.
I've known a few moderate Muslims over my professional life and exactly none of them dress their women in burqas. This is just a way to rub your face in it.
