We are no longer dependent on anyone for energy. Now we must quickly do the same on everything else except toys and trinkets.

It explains the sometimes better prices I see for meats and foods at the local Lidls or Aldis.

Right on... Same with many products. For example a milk and cheese processor in eastern SD sells 700 lb blocks to different distributors. Check the label on the Sargento in your fridge. “Distributed by”.

The Pentagon used to be in charge of watching where all strategic materiial supplies came from and lobbying for appropriate national sourcing.I think they now have what they consider to be more pressing issues.

My gummy MultiVites are made in the U.S. I guess I’m lucky that it’s all I need to take.

If your gummy vitamins, that are made in USA, have Vitamin C in them, then, chances are that the vitamin C (and other vitamins) comes from China.
Most of our Vitamin C is made in China :(
I hope this changes, soon.

I agree that the Amish product standards are as high, or higher, than many of the EU standards.
What is exceptional about many of Europe’s dairy and meat products are that they are multi-generations of animals being raised in wonderful climates, on specific grazing lands.
That, to many, is what makes many European cheeses, certain prosciutto and meats such high quality.

Damn it, everything except the air kills you, and even that is made in China.

I think youd be shocked at how quickly and efficiently we can again insource anything we put our minds to. Things may become more expensive, but WW II showed us we can do these kinds of things in a hurry.
Thank you, LS. It's amazing how so many can't see this straight: price is defined by supply and demand.
Just as Trump's domestic manufacturing program would be meaningless without tariffs (calling WSJ editors!), whatever production returns to the U.S. will defined by opportunities in supply and, thus, price.
