Hopefully someone who understands Irish politics will explain what this all means.

Sinn Féin won 24.5% of the first-preference vote in Saturdays election, almost doubling its share from 2016 after harnessing voter anger at homelessness, soaring rents and fraying public services.Sounds like they are the socialist party.

Sinn Fein is more or less the political wing of the now most defunct IRA. They run candidates on both sides of the border for federal, legislative and local races.
They support the idea of a united Ireland. their ideology is pretty left wing.
Wikipedia has an surprisingly good article about them:

Three out of every four Irish voters voted for someone else, but since they have a razor thin plurality, Sinn Féin won.
They have to forge a working coalition out of other leftist parties to have a role in government. But their role with the Provisional IRA puts off a lot of people and will make it hard for them to cobble together a government.
Conversely, the other parties may try to forge a coalition to keep them out, well see.

Sinn Fein is basically a shell party created so IRA leaders ordering assassinations and terror attacks wouldn’t be targeted by SAS troopers for arrest.

Actually they’re Catholics. Sinn Fein in Gaelic means “We Alone’’.

Yep, at this point, there's no meaningful center-right or right in Irish politics. Imagine if the political spectrum of the Democratic party of the U.S. comprised the entire political spectrum of the country... running from bomb-throwing left to center-left. Bernie and AOC would be Sinn Fein... with Pelosi and Schumer as Fianna Fail with maybe a Joe Manchin & a John Bel Edwards being as far right as it goes as Fine Gael. No party opposes abortion. No party opposes the homosexual agenda. No party opposes global leftism. No party opposes the E.U.

Europe elections, where getting 25% of the vote can put you in power.
