One thing in my own experience that causes me to be slightly optimistic, causing me to hover at least slightly below the “we’re all gonna die” sentiment, comes from my own household where we have had as many as six grandkids over the entire winter cold and flu season. With one exception, only one or two kids or adults tends to get sick at a time (or one following the other). This is despite coughing, sneezing, not-so-good hygiene in the younger kids, shared doorknobs, etc. Clearly, most of these viruses aren’t a “sure thing” as far as infecting a particular organism. And there are different levels of resistance/immunity even within the same family. And some might be infected but asymptomatic in some cases.
The one pathogen that gots us All or nearly all was strep — a bacteria.

Which is why a lot doctors want basic Strep treated with basic penicillin.
