Yes, they can still do credit checks and contact previous landlords (like the prison warden?).
Could I go rent a bunch of them, and then sublease them out under section 8 guide lines? The government would make up the difference of my rental price and their monthly payments. One might could make a little money doing that, and not owning the property would avoid maintenance cost.
If there is not enough rental housing now there is sure to be in the future. Many prospective tenants are homeless for a reason. To come to mind. One destruction of property and second lack of payment
It’s complicated. You can’t do a criminal screening until after you’ve already “prequalified” them and they meet all the other rental criteria. Then you can run the screening, but you have to ignore any conviction older than three years UNLESS it’s a sex offense. So Charles Manson would have to be approved, but I guess Ted Bundy could be denied.
