What Would Reagan Think? He’d hope that the party he led could be restored to the principles and policies that drew him to it.

[[[And Bush moved the needle right back.]]]

Bush I ushered in the globalist era into overdrive.

well, Bush didn’t prolong the Cold War, and he gave us Thomas.

Not saying all is forgiven, but, I think to say that he gave all of Reagan’s achievements back is an exaggeration. What were the income tax rates before Reagan pushed the tax cut? Like in the 70s or something? And he got that through with Tip O Neil as speaker.

Yes Bush raised taxes, and gave us Clinton, but he didn’t raise them that high......

great post....so illuminating.

I think something else that is similar between the two great presidents. They were both primarily entertainers/businessmen/deliverers of messages. Politics came to them late in life and only because they loved America.

Moreover, just like Trump is truly New York, Reagan is truly California (well at least California of his day)....yet both of them also channel and project what is uniquely American. That’s pretty amazing, if you step back and think about it.

And look how Democrats of Reagan’s day conducted themselves compared to today’s Democrats.

Say what you will about Tip O’Neill, but despite their political differences, he and Reagan were cordial towards each other.

On the Bush thing - many here are lamenting that bringing him on was detrimental and it should have been someone else......and all that talk, while in hind-sight looks 100% accurate, doesn’t take into account the time.

Others rightly confirm that the Establishment detested Reagan...….well, Bush was the leader so concessions needed to be made. Like some then like some of us now, myself included with Trump as I was a Cruz guy, needed to see the man for who he was, not who the Establishment wanted us to see. I would say with Trump that tilts much more toward the MSM as far as messing with perception.

You bring up good points. No man is infallible. Reagan has his faults (O’Connor, not responding to Beirut, ‘86 Amnesty) and Trump has his (spending, budgets, delivery) but overall both men had/have one goal, to make America the shining city on the hill.

If this weenie can’t see, not sure I care. He’s not a Conservative anyway.

spot on

Bush was also (let’s be honest) very dangerous

He was a longtime CIA man. Probably had at least some fingerprints on some ops in his lifetime that were not really very nice.....some of which we would probably like, but some we most certainly would not.

But to your point....the times have to be taken into consideration.

What is amazing is that Reagan and Trump see the time soooooo clearly, and are able to rise above the immediate fray and look across the horizon and continue making stratetig and tactical moves to get closer to the shining city on the hill.....

(Like ending the Cold War, like destroying Isis, like significantly reducing the nuclear threat, like making North Korea stand down...and now Iran?)

Make no mistake, the common man, the man in the street, loved RR, while the GOP establishment and media despised him, much like Trump. It wasn’t till the second half of his second term that the establishment came over to him.

I just think it is hilarious that this particular group of anti-Trump conservatives chose the name “Bulwark”, which can so easily be mocked like “Bulsht”

Concern troll Mark Weinberg, Partisan Media Shill, hoping we'll believe that he's a Reagan Republican instead of some ass-kissing opportunist and pro-Deep-State liar.

I think that you are 100% wrong....Reagan would marvel at what this president has accomplished, and considering his opponents, would marvel at his stamina...I loved Reagan but think that Trump is every bit his equal!!

No one was a bigger fan of Reagan than I.....I’m not a big trump guy mainly because of his pre political life....

With that said if it was a choice between reagan and trump.....I would easily chose trump

“Say what you will about Tip O’Neill, but despite their political differences, he and Reagan were cordial towards each other.”

Reagan believed in “sabers at dawn, cocktails at dusk.”
He regularly hosted gatherings where members of both parties gathered in the White House after hours for drinks and small talk. Tip O’Neill and the old school democrats responded to this approach.
Probably how Reagan got most of his agenda through.

Todays dems would never step foot in the same room with ANY Republican president, much less enjoy a drink and chat.
Different times.
Different men.
