Par for the course on FR these days. Has been trending that way for a decade now.

Mitch will set rules that satisfy the majority. They will be reasonably fair to the minority, unlike the circus in the House, and that will cause a bunch of politically ignorant folks to throw a tantrum and call for him to be defeated regardless of the cost.

Yes .... Graham sure talks a tough game.

And leaves Judgeships unfilled.

“This could get grim.”

I really doubt that.

What people forget is that not all unreliable backstabbing Republicans are corrupt. Many are simply weak, afraid, and therefore easily extorted.

This is by no means a defense of Republican turncoats - their betrayal of the causes they promised to fight for is nothing short of disgusting.

But when trying to predict their fear-based voting behavior, it is well to take into account what pressures are currently coming to bear on them.

Right now, President Trump is shaping up to be a juggernaut of political power. It’s not only the amazing economy - every possible metric is working in his favor. The same weak Republicans who would have gladly joined in on the kicking, if President Trump was down, will be the most terrified of kicking him if they think he may NOT be down.

And he is not down.

The Republicans will fall in line - and you can count on the weak ones to be the first in line.

"Romney, Collins, Murkowski, and Burr"

How much do these RINOsluts demand so that they don't flip to Demonicrat?

You paint a foul but possibly realistic picture. I am afraid many, many of them are compromised.

I am beginning to believe they wouldn't be there if weren’t compromised, no outsiders they can't control are allowed.

_____________

.... another dark but unfortunately realistic observation. These are frightening days.

It doesn’t matter. There are not 67 votes to convict. Not so long as the vote has to be cast in public.

Yes. The secret vote is crap.

Post 14 is irrelevant and post 9 could very well happen. However, I still think it will be a non-starter because every Republican in the Senate would be primaried and it won’t matter who it is. If the Senate went that way, voted by secret ballot and Trump was convicted, the country is done.

It always matters. The do-nothing GOP Senate could be gathering facts, stopping the ongoing coup and forcing the Dems into a tactical retreat. Naturally, they are not. Now Senate business will be tied up for months in an impeachment circus.

Yup. I don’t doubt that there are a bunch of RINOs who would love to see Trump gone. But even to them it’s clear that actually trying it is going to be starting the self-destruct sequence on the Republican Party.

The GOP want POTUS gone but they don’t want GOP finger prints on it. So we get the do-nothing GOP Senate leaving a GOP POTUS bare behind to a beltway hurricane coup. They refuse to gather even basic facts on the ongoing coup. Pathetic, really. No other word for it.

Nobody is “taking Trump out” by Memorial Day. That’s whackadoodle DemoKKKrat wet dreams.

House impeachment, if it ever comes to a vote, will be destroyed in the Senate. That is what will be “grim.” But I’m still not sure Botoxic has the votes. They think they are “rushing it?” I disagree. They have dragged this out hoping to build momentum, which hasn’t developed.

Now, the only remaining question is whether Botoxic will pass impeachment with 218, or even 225 D votes and no Rs and some Ds voting against (A(Monster)mash is now an I).

Rush Limbaugh doesn’t think so. He thinks for this to even appear to be a real thing, she needs all 233 Ds and at least a couple of Rs. As of today, I have her at 229 Ds, with three (Axnie, Van Dyne, and one other whom I forget-—but NOT counting Lawrence, who backtracked) dissenting Ds and no Rs.
