"Just had dinner at their house and they said the dog’s don’t need the tub of water, now that they are older...."

Maybe they were having hot flashes because they were going through menopause :-)

I love dogs, but this crap about bringing them into restaurants, onto planes, and even into hospitals makes me want to spit in anger.

This has nothing to do with REAL service animals, which I respect and support.

It is all this idiotic fake “service animal” crap. I think people who do this are morons.

Dogs are good, even small dogs. I was away at college when, after years of agitation, my two brothers were permitted to get a dog compatible with my sister's allergy problems -- which meant a small dog with short hair. The result was a toy Manchester Terrier whom we raised from a pup.

Barely seven pounds when full grown, he was a bundle of energy, smarts, and big dog attitude. No lap dog, he was fearless of everything except the vet, was rarely on a leash, and was never taken shopping or as a companion on other outings.

After all, he was needed to defend the home and yard against intruders like the mailman, squirrels, cats, possums, and even otters -- all of who he challenged with diligence and heart. In contrast, I have known of large, powerful dogs who, when intruders came, quavered and backed away or were bought off with a beefsteak.

europeans tend to bring their dogs to restaurants, including hotel restaurants.

(at least they did in the late 1960s.)

(the dogs were universally old and well behaved)

“What idiot would bring a dog into a restaurant?”

There’s certainly no shortage of those type of idiots in Florida which is striving hard to out-liberal Kalifornia.

“I think there should be more dogs at malls and restaurants.”

Ok folks, you heard it from Jayster. Bring your hard to control Shepherds, Rottweilers, etc. on kids day at the mall and watch the fun.

Most of the weirder animal worshipers I've seen were obviously potheads, most of them self-groomed to look like white trash.

Adolf Hitler and vegetarianism
Wikipedia
Analysis
[Excerpt:]
If ever a scene showed (even fictional) cruelty to or death of an animal, Hitler would cover his eyes and look away until someone alerted him the scene was over. Alexander Cockburn also wrote of Hitler:
Nazi leaders were noted for love of their pets and for certain animals, notably apex predators like the wolf and the lion. Hitler, a vegetarian and hater of hunting, adored dogs and spent some of his final hours in the company of Blondi, whom he would take for walks outside the bunker at some danger to himself. He had a particular enthusiasm for birds and most of all for wolves. [...] Goebbels said, famously, ‘The only real friend one has in the end is the dog. . . The more I get to know the human species, the more I care for my Benno.’ Goebbels also agreed with Hitler that ‘meat eating is a perversion in our human nature,’ and that Christianity was a ‘symptom of decay’, since it did not urge vegetarianism. [...] On the one hand, monsters of cruelty towards their fellow humans; on the other, kind to animals and zealous in their interest. In their very fine essay on such contradictions, Arnold Arluke and Boria Sax offer three observations. One, as just noted, many Nazi leaders harboured affection towards animals but antipathy to humans. Hitler was given films by a maharaja which displayed animals killing people. The Führer watched with equanimity. Another film showed humans killing animals. Hitler covered his eyes and begged to be told when the slaughter was over.[29]

I might stomp a dog that tries to get cozy with me. I’m 6ft 275lb. The dog would not survive.

hott chicks love dogs, talking about dogs, and talking to dog owners.

so, get a cute dog (btw, they are called football dogs, not stew dogs), go to vasona park, and strike up some convo with hott chicks. then ask them to your pad to show them your gun collection.

they will ask you to fix their laptop. you now have them at your mercy and may now ask them to first do something for you in return.

good luck!

Djinni, the Ibizan Hound, passed away from laryngeal paralysis a few months shy of 14 years but went peacefully at home.

Gypsy, her Portuguese Podengo Medio BFF went into despair and I worried I’d lose her, too, but in the past week, she seems to have rallied and is eating again and regaining the weight she lost and is back to savagely pursuing Hrafi the boy Dobe around the yard.

Her great joy is to nip at his hamstrings and try to run him to ground, little Velociraptor that she is.

He thinks that is great good fun even though they terrify me with their mock battles, sometimes.

He [Hrafi] is fine, and has taken to howling when I leave the room, which makes me happy because one of the things I miss most about Bubby were frequent howl-fests he started with everyone else joining in...including me.

Odd thing to bring on the happy tears, but there it is.

His half sister Seven seems well, having survived a cancerous toe amputation.

As always, if they’re okay, I can cope.

“Oh, I’ve got a friend who takes his pugs to restaurants all the time in a baby carriage.”

If you, your friend, the three pugs and the restaurants in question are all in the U.S., that’s a violation of Board of Health regulations. FWIW

Some of the ugly freaks have told me that they loved animals and hated mankind. I’ve asked some of them if they would like to see humans exterminated. Each one of them replied in the affirmative.

In all my years, I have never had a dog hurt me, unless it was by leaving me behind, still trapped in my mortal coil.

People...not so much.

There is, however, a passel of Dog People here on FR that are the best people in the world.

:)
