I hope you didn’t misunderstand my reply. I wasn’t implying that having armed guards is pointless. In the last few years more and more public schools have been hiring armed security officers.
The small, semi-rural school I retired from now has a “resource officer”—a deputy sheriff on campus at all times. She appears to be pretty good at her job. Her sheriff’s car is parked where everyone can see it—but in a different spot. Her office is by the front door, but, in fact, she seems to always be on the move—no one, insider or outsider can predict where she might be at any given time. And I believe she will run towards trouble and not away from it.
It’s a shame, in my opinion, that things have gotten to this, but here we are.
