There is a cartel against cartel war going on down there. It is widespread over a lot of the Mexican state of Sonora. This could be as reported with them ending up in what is basically a war zone or there could be more to the story. This is very remote area and 8 miles is nothing, it is the same isolated road. Reports are the gunmen mistook these vehicles as belonging to the rival cartel.
I think a lot of people still have no idea what is going on in Mexico. It is entirely possible right now for people with no involvement to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Whatever it is exactly, I feel sick about it. The women and children were victims no matter what the back story may be. From the nearest city to where this happened there is a highway that comes North to the US where most traffic goes on to Douglas. Agua Prieta is the city across from Douglas where there is an open cartel battle going on that actually started Sunday night/Monday morning. I doubt it is over yet either.
Sorry that was background from June, ongoing issue that flares up and is now again happening...forgot to send you link to current situation in Douglas/Agua Prieta.
Well there is a cartel war going on in the state of Sonora right now so that part is likely correct. More to it, always seems to be.
They live in that area, travel like that all the time. Until this happened there had been no violence in that area. There is a cartel war going on all over the Mexican state of Sonora though.
