It sure is...
"Eagles may soar, but weasels never get sucked into jet engines" --- Clinton Family Motto
Nothing different than humans pretty much everywhere.
Well, I've had a lot of conversations with close friends who are pastors & their wives. And since they're not pastors of churches I've attended, they have no reason to hold back, but every reason to vent to friendly, discreet ears regarding their problems.
So I guess you would feel that these other pastors have also only ever "seen the tip of the iceberg" as you put it.
Either that, or else maybe what you refer to as your clergy experiences were in some remote corner of the world in a culture that I and American pastor friends have no familiarity with.
If you're still referring to human sacrifice and cannibalism, then I can only take a wild guess ... maybe the upper Amazon, central Africa, inland New Guinea .... I know some remote areas have combined Christian practices with ancient pagan beliefs. There was a Natl Geographic article a few decades back, about a culture like this in northern Mexico.
But anyway, it sounded like we were reaching common ground there for awhile, but now it's back to worlds apart.
OK, please drop and let go of the “human sacrifice and cannibalism,” thing. I was referring to the not so innocent dark ages of Christianity. And of course not current times. Same with all of the cultures that practiced this. What gave you the idea I was referring to now, current times? I am a historian and anthropologist. The tip of the iceberg I speak of are the things your friends cannot share about deviance in current society that finds it’s way into everything and everywhere. Must be nice to be so insulated from the real world as you are.
That's been my main point from the beginning. That the very "darkest ages of Christianity" never included cannibalism & human sacrifice. It was the exact opposite: Christianity made those particular barbaric practices disappear.
I've never seen you admit that you wrongly touted these two Blood Libels against Christianity, so why should I drop it? You still think you deserve that Mulligan apparently.
"...the things your friends cannot share about deviance in current society..."
So, based solely on the one single fact that they have "Pastor" in front of their names, you are confident that you are far, far more able than I am to see into the hearts of longtime friends of mine who you have never met.
I must apologize. I didn't realize I was talking to God; I thought I was talking to an ex clergy member.
Well, there's just one thing left to say in cases like this --- Over And Out. I bequeath this sandbox to you. Deposit into it whatever you want. I won't disturb it, nor view it.
Well, all I can say is just about the time I was going to give you credit for finally thinking objectively for your previous reply, you go full on blind extremist “Christianity is perfect and never could have made mistakes” again. You apparently have ABSOLUTELY no clue or knowledge of real history, especially the dark ages in the old world. There is a real reason based on fact why they call it the “dark ages”. It really is pretty self explanatory... But I will give you credit for your blind conviction, it really is hard work to maintain and protect such a bubble of alternate reality. And I also understand that to learn some real history might interfere with this alternate reality so you are not going to ever do it... And that is fine too if you like, it is your right of opinion. Something I would afford to you, but something you will never afford to me in return because of the righteous intolerance.
