Yikes! I just noticed in another article. Her birthday is my birthday. May 26, 1953. Kinda creepy.

“Liddy Dole may have lost the senate race to her, but at 83 Liddy Dole is still going strong.”
Liddy Dole was an absentee Senator and terrible campaigner. She worked for the Washington establishment and not the people of North Carolina.
Ironically none of the prominent Democrats would run against Dole. Dole was heavily favored to win against any Democrat. Hagan wanted the job and ran an aggressive campaign. In the end Hagan won by the largest margin in a NC Senate race in 30 years. 52% to 44%.
The people of NC sent the Washington GOP establishment a lesson about carpetbagger Senators.

"So why is Trump supporting Tillis for reelection?"
Because he's an incumbent who will probably vote for Ginsberg's replacement. I'm assuming there's been some horse trading going on in the background.
As Dennis Prager said one cannot let the perfect be the enemy of the better (or something like that).
