I married a Canadian woman.
I don't think an American should have a problem bringing his wife into his country.
It is enough of a struggle to clamp down on illegal immigration, going from open borders to ZERO would not get the backing of enough Americans, even if it were the best policy.

Wives of citizens and the like could be exceptions but we need a general freeze until we can deport the invaders and assimilate the excess immigrant population.
At some point we could allow immigration again at a MUCH lower rate and restricted to the best applicants from compatible cultures.
