They never had an exit strategy and now love the endless war thing. Afghanistan is a slam dunk exit: 1) we wanted to get bin laden-—done, 2) we wanted to destroy al-queda-—done, 3) we wanted to punish the taliban-—done. Declare victory and go home and let them live like 7th century goat humpers, but leave with the warning, you mess with us we will show back up, kill thousands of you and we will leave your dead bodies for the birds to devour, no more nation building crap, just death if you cross us.
Mattis and the rest of the stars brigade in the Pentagon are still stuck in 1995 defending the post WWII world order. It’s dying and they honestly either can’t or won’t change with the changing world. NATO needs to die, it has no mission and the endless wars in the middle east must end, there is no coherent strategy but low intensity warfare forever. China is the threat and eventually Europe when they finish committing continental suicide with their mad Mohamed immigration policies, but Russia will deal with that eventually. Poland and possible England are about the only countries left in Europe worth a bucket of piss.
