Leaker or whistleblower?
The leaker has no firsthand knowledge... that’s how leakers can get tricked into furthering a story the opposite of the one that they hope for.
Say that Team Trump wanted to trick the media into reporting on the Ukraine/Biden scandal.... what would be the best way to get the media to focus on scandals involving the Ukraine?
It’s amazing how fast these fake news, anonymously-sourced hit pieces from the democrat press fall apart. There needs to be a 5-day waiting period on them. (h/t A&G)

Just because they were not there doesn't mean they don't have access. Trump has had at least two leaks of phone calls with foreign leaders in the past (Australia and Mexico). These calls are recorded, transcribed and part of the Presidential Records. I'm sure there are more than a couple people who have access to these files.
Not that I believe the spin being put on this leak, and I don't have a problem with a POTUS telling another leader to come clean on past corruption. In fact, I expect it.
