Given our current course deficit spending and debt growth under the Trump administration will rival the largest increases in history.
We will be worse off when he leaves office than we were when he took office.
Sorry but that is the course we are on and there are no signs that will change.
I agree with all except that the Civil War killed off the Republic.
The Republic is not dead but not vibrant. It elected Trump in 2016 because of the EC.
What has weakened the Republic more than anything is the 17th Amendment.
Every US Senator is bought and paid for, every last one of them.
The 17th Amendment allows oligarchs to buy the US Senate with a controlling share of US Senators in their stable.
Whereas without the 17th Amendment the same oligarchs would have to buy off state legislatures which are much closer to the American people, i.e. they would be up against the American people.
The American people do not need to be participating in the HIRING of US Senators meaning a popular vote of the same.
What they need to have instead and what they should have been given the power to do in 1913 is a participation in the FIRING of US Senators via provisions for recall which US Federal Courts have ruled is unconstitutional in the Sen. Frank Church case from decades ago.
* FIRING VS. HIRING *
The argument for this arrangement is based on scripture:
“A Tree Is Known By Its Fruit”
A US Senatorial Candidate running for office has scriptwriters, schedulers, handlers, PR Spokespersons, and media professionals to create a narrative and image that will fool voters.
But it is much harder for such a machine to hide actual performance once in office.
Hence, it is much more beneficial to the Republic to have state legislatures once again bring forth their US Senators and let either legislatures or voters recall as necessary US Senators that are perceived as corrupt, as having sold out.
The COS organization is one organization making great strides in the conservative direction and which has Mark Levin as a member and principle adviser. It now has enough states to quash any attempt by progressive activists to subvert an Article V process. This means it is a winner for conservatives.
Here is one amendment proposal that will come later once 34 state legislatures have called for amendments, and we note that former Governor Mike Huckabee has publicly endorsed the need for Recall of US Senators:
************************************************
AMENDMENT XXVIII (’Federal-State Rebalancing’)
To restore the foundational structure of State Legislatures to Congress, the following amendment is proposed:
************************************************
Section 1. Senators in Congress shall be subject to recall by their respective state legislatures or by voter referendums in their respective states.
Section 2. Term limits for Senators in Congress shall be set by a vote in their respective state legislatures but in no case shall be set less than two terms nor more than three terms.
Section 3: The seventeenth article of amendment to the Constitution of the United States is hereby repealed.
************************************************
You can bet that if Reagan had picked Laxalt the establishment pubbies would have revolted and decided to back John Anderson just to spite Reagan and cause him to lose to Carter.
