Less than 1% of the USA adult population were treated in the ER or died from opioid drug use in 2018.
Also important, almost two thirds of opioid-related ER visits are paid for by Medicaid.
That means that opioid use is heavily concentrated in low income groups - it is not an epidemic for middle class and upper middle class families.
