I think more and more housing is designed with the assumption that private home ownership for most Americans is a thing of the past - and mas importing of workers (blue-collar from Latin America, white-collar from Asia) will sufficiently destabilize the jobs market to make this a permanent condition. Young Americans now share the outlook of many young Western Europeans; they won’t breed or make any long-term financial commitments due to the uncertainty of their financial futures.
