He was, uh, complex. I say that as someone who is not particularly a fan of his, or of sci-fi, or of fiction in general.

I’m also curious about a broader history. Did this keep up for all of Dewey’s life? One feature of the modern “liberal” viewpoint on people is that they are static, one-dimensional entities.

I had an artist friend who would say, "Gee whiz ... you take it up the a$$ one time, and people have you pegged."

Dewey was in a position to sexually harass numerous women because he was a feminist.

Kinda like being a male cheerleader in college????

That’s what I learned about in the library part of English class. The Dewey Decimal System. God, how I hate it.

Typical Libs. They still want to take advantage of these “racists” when it comes to their economics

they are such hypocrites

Maybe they can find a system developed by a slave or descendant as good as Dewey

When are they going to purge and denounce the perversion going on physically in their own libraries. The pictures of real life perverted child abuse library incidences lately being shared on FR are heart wrenching. The poor children of this country. . .

By the grace of God, some people do go on to saner things after flirting with folly.

The fellow couldn’t help himself... although an unbeliever by proud philosophy, when it came to art he bowed to something greater than he was. Nothing but piety would work in some circumstances. I wonder if, on the way out, Asimov was greeted by God pointing out every moment that God had in fact made it through to him, ultimately welcoming one more astonished saint into his own unique corner of heaven. It isn’t God who holds the grudges. It’s the atheists. And even they will sometimes drop their grudges in the right context.

I did like Asimov’s robot stories, which attempted to plumb the human nature in the person of his positronic brained robots. Hanging above it all was the implied question of just what “harm” might be — and how it might balance against “help.”

I remember he came up with a real mind bender when he tried to speculate what would be beyond this universe.

And I’ve got some theories about why atheists have gotten the way they are. Sometimes Christendom has fallen so sadly short of God’s glory that the witness emanating from it has been largely negative. For Jewish people (which Asimov was) from the Old World, a constant big fear was the pogrom, which easily centered about Orthodox and Catholic societies, and even carried on into some Protestant ideas (as Martin Luther’s). This represents an unfaithfulness to the witness of the bible, as we can rightly point out. But it’s very hard to shake the feeling.

” The Dewey Decimal System is the foundation of the modern library. Hundreds of thousands of libraries have laid out their collections around the work of the founder of the American Library Association.”

I love the Dewey Decimal System and truly miss the card files!

“Now Melvil Dewey has been purged by the American Library Association.”

They will be made to pay for this!

As soon as they can flush this photograph down a memory hole, or get Snopes to discredit it.
