Khashoggi was a journalist who was often critical of the Saudi government and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who wrote for The Washington Post’s global opinion section. Khashoggi was at one point an adviser to senior officials in the Saudi government and worked for top news outlets in the country. He was long seen as close to the ruling elite there.
The Saudi royal family barred Khashoggi from writing after he was critical of US President Donald Trump, and it drove Khashoggi to leave Saudi Arabia for the US in the summer of 2017.
According to the Saudi government foreign minister, “He’s a Saudi citizen, and we will continue our dialogue with the Turkish government to see what happened to Jamal there.”
An investigation is being accomplished:
The Saudi public prosecutor’s office on November 15 said 11 people had been indicted in connection with Khashoggi’s killing and that the death penalty had been requested for five of them. Prosecutors added that 21 people had been detained overall. Riyadh said in October that 18 people had been detained. None of the suspects were named, and a spokesman for the prosecutor reiterated the kingdom’s claims that Prince Mohammed had no prior knowledge of the killing.
If he was abducted in the Turkish consulate, then why do they not have video of the incident and can prove what is being said? They have cameras all over the consulate from the ambassador to the bathrooms. There is no privacy and you can’t pass gas without being observed.
It’s all he said/she said. But let a writer turn up dead and everything comes to a halt. Especially during the investigation of the justice department’s handling of the Trump investigation and the re-opening of the Clinton investigation. I think it’s called a diversion.
