Fyi, the Spanish service load was a 173 FMJ at about 2050FPS for the Model 1893 Mauser. - When the Model 1903 Springfield rifle was COPIED from “The Spanish Scorpion” after the Spanish-American War (in the sort-lived .30-03 caliber) it too had a similar weight FMJ bullet.
(The 1903 Springfield is so obviously copied from the Mauser design that the US government paid royalties to Paul Mauser & his estate for a long time. - In fact, ONE of the “justifications” for KEEPING the US Rifle Model of 1917 as “service standard” was that the Model 1917 was NOT a Mauser design & thus no royalties had to be paid into Germany.)

Note: Imo, the Model of 1917 is a SUPERIOR main battle rifle, when compared to the Springfield Model of 1903.
The US government refused to keep the Model of 1917 as “service standard” ONLY because it was a “foreign”/British design.
(”The American Enfield” was the rifle used by SGT York in his famous one-man attack on the German trench-lines & for which he received the MoH.)

I have killed a lot of pigs with a Ruger Mini 14, .223.

Shot them in the ear. Round goes into the brain and bounces around in there. They drop like a sack of potatoes.

As for eating them, no way. I leave them for the buzzards and coyotes.
