President Trump knew just how to get the Mexican attention. And he did it. Now, to be sure, he will make sure the deal is done or the tariffs will be on again and heavier.

My guess is that Trump has that EO of December 2017 in his back pocket

Ready to slap on Mexico as a major facilitator of massive human trafficking into the USA.

Would make a few % of tariffs look like small change.

You could also say that about the Chinese...and their treatment of various minorities in China.

Johnson gets a lot of flack around here....perhaps deservedly so. I don’t follow his record with complete scrutiny.

HOWEVER.....one thing is true. He was, before becoming a senator, a legitimate CEO. I forget the business, but that’s my recollection. He was a credible businessman, who entered politics to try to help.

PERHAPS...perhaps because of his similar background, he is able to see what Trump is up to here.

I’d like to think that is the case. :)

"Yet GOP Senator Ted Cruz joined the traitorous Republican Senators who publicly opposed POTUS Trump"

Cruz is very book smart on legal issues, but is the last person you would want negotiating on behalf of the US.

He's just too tone deaf when it comes to politics.

Cruz is strange guy. Not clear what his personal agenda is, but clearly it is not most of our agenda.

Johnson is a businessman but he is also a hothead. His initial reaction to Trump’s strategy was the tiresome obtuse rino “oh no! Tariffs bad!” Dreck. Now it slowly dawns on him that maybe Trump knew what he was doing, so he jumps on board. Duh.

In general, Republicans understand tariffs are attacks on American consumers

I am a Republican and I am pro tariff and protectionist all the way. I am not alone.
