About 20 years ago a shop offering high end, hand crafted furniture opened in a north Orange County industrial park. They had some beautiful examples of their work in their showroom.
One problem was that the furniture wasn’t their own, it was some that they were pretending to have built.
Another problem is that they weren’t going to build any furniture. Their business plan was just to take a lot of downpayments from prospective clients, and then to return to their home country with a wad of cash before anyone caught on.
